An old and somewhat broken 27MHz toy RC-car with missing remote has been given new life by discarding the old toy receiver and hooking up its relays to an AVR-microcontroller and connecting the micro to the servo outputs on a standard RC receiver. Also now uses lithium polymer battery instead of whatever it might have been originally. The micro just takes the servo pulses and controls the four relays that run the two motors. This way you can control it with a standard RC transmitter forward/reverse left/right, even though the car is built with one motor on the left side and one on the right. (it's 3 am and I'm to tired to describe it better, but it's really not that complicated) Now I just need to add some sensors, gps and stuff, and write some more software to make it autonomous.
